Lightweight Cryptography
Gregor Leander, Ruhr-Univ. Bochum, SRN

In this talk I will motivate the need for lightweight cryptography - in particular block ciphers - in real life products and briefly recall some of the (proprietary and weak) algorithms still in use. After that I will highlight some proposals from academia and show that the academic designs have recently started to deviate a bit from actual needs in industry. Finally, I will talk about challenges and opportunities when designing a block cipher. In particular I will hereby focus on the linear layer in block cipher designs.
