Design and Analysis of eSTREAM candiates

eSTREAM is a project within the EU ECRYPT network of excellence to identify promising new stream ciphers. The achievements of this project are reported. General construction principles of stream ciphers are described together with explicit constructions of a few eSTREAM candidates. This is followed by an overview of cryptanalysis methods that have been applied in the analysis of candidates. Finally, potential future applications of stream ciphers are discussed.
