Protocol Design: Coming Down from the Cloud

Protocol design and analysis often refer to a general and unspecific model of the underlying communications system: the Internet is a cloud; all traffic is controlled by the adversary. These assumptions force certain solutions on protocol designers. The talk will give some examples to illustrate how cryptographic primitives can be used in novel and maybe unexpected ways when more specific assumptions about the environment are made.
